Monthelie Douhairet Porcheret, Monthelie Clos du Meix Gernier 13’, 16’, 18’

$72.00Price
About the Wine:
This wine is bright ruby in its youth and develops a deep carmine, black cherry hue with bottle age. It initially discloses notes of strawberry, blackberry and violet, which evolve towards liquorice, leather and animal fur combined with notes of game and undergrowth after a few years in the bottle. The palate is decidedly Burgundian in style with a rich, round body and good structure. It has a solid backbone underpinned by delicate, well-honed, velvety tannins. Whilst a pure, fruity pleasure to drink in its youth, this wine also evolves remarkably well with bottle age.
About the Producer:
The Monthelie and Douhairet family created the estate over 300 years ago. It was passed down to two sisters in 1970, whom one sold their portion, while the other, Armande fought to retain hers. She adopted a son who took over the estate when she passed away. Today the 8 hectares of vines is run by his granddaughter and her companion.
Technical Info:
Plot area: 1.36ha. 8,400 bottles per vintage. Average age of the vines: 60 years. The Meix is in the early Middle Ages, a collection of buildings, included in a large-scale farming operation. In the heart of the village, this is our monopoly.
