Mooiplas, Chenin Blanc, Stellenbosch 2020

About the Wine:
Lovely pale straw color, nose decidedly tropical with quince / golden delicious apples / litchi / mango / and summer melon flavours, good weight and balance on the palate, layered with minerality on the palate. The wonderful mouthfeel that typifies ripe Chenin blanc has already started to develop and will increase in the next 12 – 24 months. Some pairing recommendations include: Crayfish, prawn, grilled fish, creamy pasta dish and roast chicken.
About the Producer:
Mooiplaas is a historic and traditional working wine estate. The family-run estate is located on the steep slopes of ancient mineral-rich soil in the Bottelary Hills of Stellenbosch. The history of the farm dates to 1806 with the Manor House, which is an impressive example of Cape Dutch architecture. It has even become a national monument. Owners and brothers, Tielman and Louis Roos, produce a range of environmentally-friendly wines rooted in tradition and artisan techniques that make the most of the unique terroir. The tasting room is the oldest building on the farm and is the original horse stable. “To produce premium wines, you have to follow the ‘classic’ approach. Use the best grapes from the best vineyards with minimal interference during the winemaking process. That will give you wines that are distinctive and expressive of place and vintage.” – Louis Roos
